- Global English, a thorough introduction, by Rita Raley of UC Santa Barbara, to what it is with bibliographic information and links to many helpful resources.
- ASSET: A simplified English, complete interactive dictionary/thesaurus for Windows.
- Controlled Languages Homepage, exhaustive site of information on controlled languages
- Controlled Language Tools
- Simplified English for Aircraft Workcards. A research project that is one of the few to evaluate usability issues as they relate to simplified (sometime called controlled) English. Excellent paper.
- AECMA Simplified English Guide, published by the Air Transport Association. One of the few collections of Simplified English that you can buy. Although this lexicon contains terminology for the aviation industry, it is still a very useful and excellent example of a working lexicon for controlled English.
Culture
Armchair World: The Well Informed Traveler, a good collection of links for those who travel around the world and who want to learn more about their target destinations before they arrive (a very good idea!).
Cross-Cultural Communication, overheads from a course taught by Dr. J. E. Beer of the School of International Service, American University, Washington, D.C.
"Beyond Language: Cultural Predispositions in Business Correspondence," a paper by Dr. Charles P. Campbell of the New Mexico Institute of Mining & Technology.
The Library of Congress's Country Handbooks. Most books in the series deal with a particular foreign country, describing and analyzing its political, economic, social, and national security systems and institutions, and examining the interrelationships of those systems and the ways they are shaped by cultural factors.
Cultures and Beliefs, a short but useful list of links to learn about belief systems and cultures throughout the world.
- Databank of Cross-Cultural Emotions, "an initiative to set up a searchable collection of datasets containing data derived from cross-cultural research on emotions. Datasets will be made available by downloading and can be found by emotion-categories and countries. Also, researchers can place new or updated datasets at the Emotion Databank for scientific re-use."
- "On the Role of Assumptions in Intercultural Research and Consulting: Examining the Interplay of Culture and Conflict at Work," a paper by Dr. Gillian P.S. Khoo at the Pacific Region Forum, 10 November 1994.
- Intercultural Communication, a short paper about language, cultural values, and bridging cultural differences by Donnell King.
- Intercultural Communication, a collection of links gathered by Ken Pennington for his International Affairs class.
- Latin American Network Information Center, seemingly exhaustive resource for all sorts of information about Latin America. A five-star information resource!
- Intercultural Studies Websites, a wonderful collection of links to Web sites pertaining to language and culture.
- Getting Through Customs, providing information on global business practices, cognitive styles, cultural overviews, medical & political information, contacts, religious & societal influences on business protocol, Cultural I.Q. Quizzes, and more for international travelers.
- Intercultural Communication, a Web site resulting from Néstor G. Trillo's graduate school research in intercultural communication at the University of Hawaii. This is a terrific resource.
- Intercultural Email Connections, a wonderful effort to "help
teachers and classes link with partners in other countries and
cultures for e-mail classroom pen-pal and project exchanges."

- International Study and Travel Center, an excellent and helpful effort by students at the University of Minnesota.
- CIA Publications. Includes the CIA World Factbook. Fabulous resource. Includes all sorts of information on probably every country in the world. Light on cultural information though.
- Country Reports. Useful list of links that you might consult if you travel internationally.
- Craighead Publications. Publisher of excellent reports that prepare you to live and do business in many countries around the world. Assumes that you are US American and are interested in relocating.
- The Lonely Planet Destinations Guide, worldwide travel, event, and cultural information
- The Embassy Page, an extremely useful site with links to embassies and consulates worldwide!

Cheat Sheet for Travelers, a favorite of mine that I use when I travel overseas and need a cheat sheet for figuring out currency equivalents. Excellent resource!
- The Edge, the E-Journal of Intercultural Relations.
- Global Book Awards Winners, a program originated by the Financial Times and Booz-Allen & Hamilton.
- UNESCO Publications page. Some excellent and hard-to-find research.
- State of the World Forum, an important non-profit, global organization that seeks to contribute to the fashioning of our common future by developing concrete initiatives that address fundamental human needs.
- Overseas Travel Information, a short list of links to Web sites for people who travel internationally.
- US Council for International Business. Several links to useful sites, particularly the International Chamber of Commerce.
- International Trade and Business Bookstore, by the US Department of Commerce.
- International Herald Tribune. A great English-language newspaper about international news.
- Electronic Fieldtrip to the United Nations. Fun and very informative.
- Resources on Communication and Community: A Komei Bibliography. Excellent bibliography and related hyperlinks on topics ranging from business communication to international business communication and intercultural communication.
- The European Journalism Page, great list for keeping current with European news.
- Global Links. A collection of news-related links organized by country.
- Global Management Forum, a bulletin-board interface to a useful discussion on various issues related to global management.
- Technical Writers of India (TWIN).
- Foreign Languages for Travelers. Excellent Web site for learning a foreign language! Includes sound files, excellent use of CGI capabilities, and more. I highly recommend this!
- UK and US English. A fun Web site entitled "What a load of codswallop, pet!" that addresses words that could be confusing and embarrassing in the UK & US.
- The International Business List. An excellent resource and available in at least twelve languages.
- Global Intranets, an article from Intranet World entitled "Injecting Order into Anarchistic Global Intranets," by Robert E. Calem.
- The Internationalist. A plethora of information, including books, directories, reports, and maps.
- Mass Media in Specific Countries and Regions, an interesting, albeit small, collection of links related to mass media.
- Localisation Resources Centre. This is an excellent resource. They even publish a magazine and offer scholarships to people doing research on localization.
- The Global Emerging Markets Database, offers comprehensive business information on many emerging markets. Sponsored by the International Business Center, Katz Graduate School of Business, at the University of Pittsburgh.

The LOGOS dictionary, a comprehensive dictionary of 7,580,560 entries (total for all languages). See also the online version of the magazine Language Today, which is also located at the Logos Web site.
- Articles about Translation by several professional translators. Some topics include "Translation as a Profession," "What Does a Translator Do All Day?," and "When West Edits East."
- A Web of Online Dictionaries. Contains links to more than 400 dictionaries of over 130 different languages.
- Travlang's Translating Dictionaries. Seemingly exhaustive collection of dictionaries.
- Web Resources for Translators sponsored by the Institute of Translation and Interpretation. Lots of links to all sorts of dictionaries.
- Ethnologue, the thirteenth edition, edited by Barbara F. Grimes. Exhausting resource! "The Ethnologue is a catalogue of more than 6,700 languages spoken in 228 countries. The Ethnologue Name Index lists over 39,000 language names, dialect names, and alternate names."
- Translation Research Group. Translation, Theory and Technology (TTT.org) is maintained by the Translation Research Group of Brigham Young University's Department of Linguistics, which includes TESOL. Excellent resource.
- Publications for Translators, by Schreiber Publishing. They publish The Translator's Handbook.

Language Links, an extraordinary collection of links about language--so many that Polyglot had to continue the listing on a second Web page. Organized alphabetically by language. Also has links to multilingual resources, linguistics sites, and so on.
- Translation Links. Good list of resources if you are managing translation or if you are a translator. Includes links to mailing lists and discussion groups, plus companies that develop translation software.
- Terminology Resources on the WWW. Wow! Excellent resource for translators.
- Terminology Forum Home Page. Another exhaustive resource for multilingual professionals who are interested in terminology.
